Another week and another award for South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson as she was named SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season. Joining Wilson as one honored is Tennessee freshman guard Rennia Davis who was named Freshman of the Week for the first time in her young career.
Wilson was dominate yet again last week and rewrote some record books along the way. Against #6 ranked Notre Dame in the Gulf Coast Showcase, Wilson poured in a career-high 34 points, besting her previous career-high of 33 that she set just two days prior in a win over Rutgers. She is now the only player in South Carolina history with three 30-point games in a career against ranked opponents. In the loss against the Irish, Wilson scored 18 points in the fourth quarter alone. She also dished out 5 assists, another career-high.

In addition to her two scoring explosions, Wilson also recorded a double-double against St. John’s, her sixth in a row, putting in 17 points and hauling in 17 rebounds. For her career, Wilson is now sixth in scoring (1809), sixth in rebounding (886) and sixth in double-doubles (36) in school history. She averaged 23.9 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 2.4 apg and 3.7 bpg.
As for Davis, she helped lead her Lady Vols squad to a perfect 3-0 record at the Cancun Challenge where they defeated then #20 Marquette, Oklahoma State and South Dakota. In the Marquette win, Davis recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 7-of-13 from the field. She followed that up with another double-double against Oklahoma State (12 points, 10 rebounds), then scored 12 points in the final game against South Dakota. For the week Davis, a Jacksonville, Florida native, averaged 12.7 ppg and 8.3 rpg.
After the loss to Notre Dame, South Carolina fell from #3 in the rankings to #6. Tennessee meanwhile stayed put at #12.
