Boucek most recently served as the head coach of the Seattle Storm for two-plus seasons. She was let go by Seattle after a 10-16 start to the 2017 season. Boucek was also a WNBA head coach from 2007 to 2009 with the Sacramento Monarchs.
Boucek played in the WNBA’s first season in 1997 for the Cleveland Rockers. Boucek was an assistant coach for both of Seattle’s title runs (2004 and 2010), and has been an assistant for three other WNBA franchises.
Boucek will be on the sidelines for Sacramento’s Friday game in Dallas, per Voepel’s report. She brings a wealth of experience to a Kings squad that will need it. Boucek played collegiately and professionally then got into coaching early after suffering a career-ending injury.
With two tenures as a head coach and five more as an assistant under her belt, she’ll look to help in bringing along a young Kings core headlined by 2017 #5 overall pick De’Aaron Fox. In addition to Fox, nine Sacramento players are 25 or younger.
Boucek and Becky Hammon are the only women currently serving in full-time NBA coaching roles. Nancy Lieberman had been a member of the Kings’ staff in each of the last two seasons; she is no longer working for the franchise. This current NBA season is Hammon’s fourth with the San Antonio Spurs.
