The Connecticut Sun and head coach Curt Miller have agreed to a contract extension through 2021, the team announced on Tuesday. The terms were not released.

Miller said on a conference call on Tuesday that his contract had initially been for two years, with a third-year option that had already been picked up.

"“I am truly excited to continue coaching and building the Connecticut Sun,” Miller said in a press release. “The long term commitment is greatly appreciated and I can’t begin to thank Mitchell Etess, Tom Cantone and Amber Cox enough for their belief in our direction and vision. I would also like to thank the Mohegan Tribe for its amazing support. Most importantly, I love our players and their selfless desire to build a championship culture in Connecticut. I am blessed and fortunate to be a part of this franchise.”"

Miller and the Sun are coming off a 21-13 season in which they finished just a game behind the New York Liberty for the best record in the Eastern Conference. Their year was cut short by a loss to the Phoenix Mercury in the second round of the WNBA Playoffs.

Sun vice president of sports Amber Cox added:

"“Curt is a masterful game planner who works tirelessly to prepare for each match-up. He’s also done a tremendous job stepping into the general manager role, navigating through some adverse situations and ultimately guiding us back to the WNBA Playoffs.”"

Connecticut went just 14-20 in 2016, Miller’s first year at the helm. But after orchestrating a seven-game improvement in 2017, Miller was awarded the WNBA Coach of the Year award earlier this month. He also represented the Eastern Conference on the sideline as the team’s All-Star Game coach.
