The Minnesota Lynx and center Sylvia Fowles have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Friday.

The exact terms of the contract were not released, per team policy.

Lynx executive vice president Roger Griffith said the following in a statement on Friday:

"“We are happy to have extended the contract of one of our team leaders and one of the best players in the WNBA. When we traded for Sylvia two seasons ago, we did so with the goal of winning more championships. That decision has paid off so far after she helped guide us to the 2015 WNBA Championship. Over the last three years, Sylvia has been an integral part of our success and is undoubtedly one of the elite centers in the WNBA. We are thrilled that she’s decided to continue her career with the Lynx.”"

News of the extension comes as the final weekend of the WNBA regular season is about to tip off and the Lynx are fighting for the No. 1 seed in the WNBA Playoffs. Fowles has been a key to Minnesota’s success this season and is one of the most dominant players in the league, averaging a double-double (19.1 points, 10.4 rebounds per game). In fact, her 19 double-doubles are a single-season franchise record. Fowles has also enjoyed the best effective shooting (65.0) and true shooting (69.0) percentages of her career.

The 2015 WNBA Finals MVP has also won all three WNBA Player of the Month awards that have been announced this season (as of this writing, the August Player of the Month has not been released).

The Lynx will close out the regular season with a pair of home games, starting Friday night against the Chicago Sky.
