Elena Delle Donne will return to action against the Liberty at Madison Square Garden, Doug Feinberg reported this afternoon. her return fits into the rough timeline originally set by the Washington Mystics after the 2015 league MVP underwent surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in the left thumb. Delle Donne missed the last six Mystics games recovering from surgery. In that span, Washington has gone 3-3, enough to clinch a playoff berth.

Delle Donne was sidelined earlier in the season with an ankle injury that kept her from participating in the 2017 All-Star Game. She missed the playoffs with the Chicago Sky last season due to an issue with her right thumb.

Her return tonight adds scoring power the team missed against Los Angeles last week. The team fell 95-62 to the defending champions.  The Mystics also dropped a game to the San Antonio Stars during Delle Donne’s absence.

The University of Delaware product is averaging 18.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.  The Mystics will look to gain ground against the New York Liberty, who currently sit a half game ahead of Washington for fourth place overall in the league. The Liberty

New York holds the tiebreaker over Washington based on their winning percentage against teams at or above .500. Washington can upset the current tiebreaker with a win over New York, Connecticut, and Minnesota to close out the season.
