Connecticut Sun forward/center Jonquel Jones and Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles have been named WNBA Players of the Week in the Eastern and Western conferences, respectively, for games played from Aug. 7-13.

More from High Post Hoops

It was the second time this season that Jones won the award, while Fowles has been named Player of the Week a league-high five times this year. Fowles has also won 12 Player of the Week awards over her 10 seasons.

Jones led the Sun to a pair of wins last week behind dominating performances against the Storm (20 points, 14 rebounds) and Wings (19 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks). Jones’ game against the Wings gave her six consecutive double-doubles and a league-leading 16 for the season. She also matched career highs in blocks, assists (four), and steals (four) against the Wings.

More importantly, the Sun locked up a postseason spot for the first time since 2012 with their victories.

The Lynx split their two games last week, but Fowles was strong in both. She posted 27 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks against the Dream, before a 17-and-13 game in a home loss to the Sparks.

Despite having now lost two out of three, Minnesota is still 21-4, good for the best record in the WNBA. The Lynx will visit Seattle on Wednesday and the Sun travel to the Dream on Tuesday.
