The San Antonio Stars announced today that center Erika de Souza has been waived. The Brazilian-native suffered a lower right leg bone bruise during practice on Aug. 8. de Souza requested to be waived so she can return home to complete her physical therapy.
The 12-year WNBA veteran averaged 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in 27 games with the Stars this season. The news comes after the Stars completed an 84-68 home victory over the Atlanta Dream.
The Stars face the Storm Friday, Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. before visiting the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, Aug. 22 for a 9:30 p.m.
Essence Carson and Riquna Williams not with the team
Neither Carson (right elbow strain) nor Williams (left knee strain) traveled with the team to take on the New York Liberty. Carson has missed the last four games and William’s the last two. The Sparks are 2-1 in the month of August with wins over New York and Minnesota. The Sparks have already clinched a 2017 playoff berth, thus securing a chance to defend their 2016 title.
Carson is averaging she is averaging 5.2 points in 19.1 minutes per game for Los Angeles this season. Williams has averaged 6.4 points and 17.7 minutes per game for the Sparks this season. Los Angeles will take on Dallas and Minnesota on the road before returning home on August 22 to host San Antonio.
