On Tuesday, the WNBA announced that Curt Miller was named Coach of the Month for July. The second year head coach of the Connecticut Sun tallied a 7-2 record last month, an Eastern Conference best.

The Sun closed out July tied with the Washington Mystics for the top spot in the East. Earlier in the month, the Sun defeated the Mystics 96-92 in the first meeting of the teams.  They were set to meet again on July 28 in Washington, D.C, but the game was rained out. Yes. Rained out, indoors.

Miller and his staff coached the East in last month’s All-Star Game in Seattle. Three of Miller’s players, Alyssa Thomas, Jasmine Thomas and Jonquel Jones made the mid-season exhibition game.  As a team, the Sun led the league in points per game (87.4) and steals per game (9.89) in July. Connecticut also ranked third in rebounds (35.6 rpg) and three-point field goal percentage (.363, 61-of-168).

Miller will guide his team through a three-game home stand to begin August.  On Friday, the Sun host Diana auras and the Phoenix Mercury. This marks the first contest between the two team this season. The Sun will go for a third season win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday.  Connecticut will host the Dallas Wings at home on Saturday, August 12 in hopes of avenging a 96-82 loss on June 25 in Texas.
