Liberty center Tina Charles became New York’s all-time leading rebounder Friday night in a typically strong performance on the boards.
Though it was not announced to the crowd until Charles had already passed 12 total rebounds for the night, she broke the franchise record with her eighth of the game against the Chicago Sky. Not even four full seasons into her Liberty tenure, she eclipsed Tari Phillips’ 1,077 mark and has plenty of time to run away with the title.

Charles also took over eighth place on the WNBA’s all-time rebounding list, passing Michelle Snow, with fellow UConn alum Swin Cash up next. She is also the franchise’s all-time leader in scoring average and sits at sixth on the team’s all-time scoring list.
In three-and-a-half seasons with the Liberty, Charles has been the face of the franchise. She has not averaged fewer than 17.1 points or 8.5 rebounds per game in her time in New York and has started all 116 games that she has played.
The Sky and Liberty are currently locked in a close game, coming down to the wire in the fourth quarter. Charles has already notched her seventh double-double of the season and earlier this week was named a starter in the 2017 WNBA All-Star Game.
