Despite an abysmal 2025 season, Wings fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the future. First and foremost, the Wings still have Paige Bueckers and will get to add another lottery pick in the next draft. Moreover, the Wings just hired longtime USF head coach Jose Fernandez, suggesting that the franchise is headed into a more consistent and cohesive direction than it was this year.

The Wings’ front office brought in plenty of new players ahead of the 2025 season, most notably DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith. Neither finished the season with the team, as GM Curt Miller recognized that the fit wasn’t great and traded them for draft capital and youngster Diamond Miller. The Wings also made some home-run moves, however. Bringing in 2020 second-round pick Luisa Geiselsöder turned out to be a good choice, for example.

Geiselsöder only played 28 games, starting 24 of them, but quickly emerged as a promising contributor in her rookie season. Going into next season, the Wings will have to decide which of their young players should be long-term pieces in their rebuild. Geiselsöder is making a strong case to be a future contributor for the Wings while playing overseas.

Wings GM Curt Miller and some other Wings personnel recently went to Turkey, as Miller documented on social media. They were in attendance for a game between CBK Mersin and Galatasaray Cagdas Factoring Istanbul. Geiselsöder plays for Mersin this season while Awak Kuir, the Wings’ lottery pick in 2021, plays for Galatasaray.

Geiselsöder played an incredibly strong offensive game despite her team’s 75-71 loss. Going up against a trio of WNBA-talent bigs in Dorka Juhasz, Awak Kuir, and Elizabeth Williams, Geiselsöder reminded everyone of her potential. She finished the game with 22 points and five rebounds in just 23 minutes on the court. Geiselsöder was the team’s leading scorer and led the team in shooting efficiency.

The 25-year-old converted six of her nine two-point attempts and went 3-5 from three. 12 of her 22 points came in the first quarter, in which she showcased her full scoring potential. Geiselsöder scored an easy layup off a rebound, knocked down two threes, and sank a free-throw line and a baseline jumper.

Geiselsöder could help the Wings again next season

Geiselsöder will be a reserved free agent once a new CBA is in effect, which means that she can only negotiate with the Wings. That is good news for Dallas. While the draft is still far away, it is widely expected that the Wings will choose a big to pair with Paige Bueckers—either Lauren Betts or Awa Fam. Geiselsöder can complement either one in the frontcourt.

If the Wings draft Betts, they will definitely need a forward who can space the floor and is comfortable working on the perimeter. Geiselsöder can do just that. If the Wings draft Fam, Geiselsöder’s 3-point shooting would also be a nice skill to have in the frontcourt. Plus, considering how young Fam is, having an older, more experienced forward who still fits the team’s timeline would also be beneficial.

The 2025-26 season is still young, but so far, it looks like Geiselsöder is ready for a big second season with the Wings.
