Worrying Breanna Stewart issue persists through early Unrivaled action

There’s still plenty of time to work on this.

The 2025 WNBA season was a down year for Stewart. It marked the first time since her rookie season in 2016 that she averaged fewer than 19 points per game. She also averaged career lows in rebounds per game, 3-point percentage, and 3-point attempts.

A down year by Stewart’s standards is still a really good season for pretty much anyone else. She averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. The one aspect of her game that took a real hit in the last two seasons, is her 3-point shooting. Stewart was a solid 3-point shooter for most of her career, shooting between 33 and 41% for seven consecutive seasons. In 2024, her second season with the Liberty, she shot below 30% for the first time in her career. Her 3-point percentage got even worse in 2025 despite fewer shot attempts.

Two games in, Stewart also hasn’t made a three in Unrivaled yet, missing all seven of her attempts.

The Liberty struggled to make threes in the playoffs

After finishing the regular season second in 3-point percentage despite bad shooting seasons from Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, the Liberty struggled to make threes in the playoffs. They never shot over 23% in any of their three first-round games. That made it difficult to keep up with the Mercury and contribute to their losses.

Jonquel Jones, Ionescu, and Stewart all dealt with injuries during the season and the playoffs, so that was likely part of the reason for the Liberty’s struggles. For Stewart, it was already the second consecutive season that she couldn’t get her 3-point shots to fall. Getting her touch back could make the difference between a deep playoff run and another early exit from the postseason.

Otherwise, Stewart looks great in Unrivaled

Stewart played her first Unrivaled season while battling an injury. So, she and her team didn’t perform as well as fans may have expected. This time around, Stewart looks ready for a more successful season.

While her threes still aren’t falling, pretty much everything else is working for her. After a solid performance in the season opener, Stewart recorded 22 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal in a narrow comeback win over the Laces.

Stewart scored both of the Mist’s game-winners so far, and her revamped team looks ready to compete for an Unrivaled championship after not even making the playoffs last season.
