Las Vegas Aces superstar A'ja Wilson is one of the best players in the WNBA. In fact, many consider her to be the best player in the game. Yet, in 2025, her name has not been mentioned in early MVP conversations as often as one may expect. Part of that is due to the fact that Napheesa Collier is in the middle of an excellent campaign. However, Wilson's MVP chances should not be overlooked.

Overall, the Aces haven't performed up to their standards. Las Vegas holds a rather mediocre 8-8 overall record. Wilson is not playing quite as well as she did in 2023 -- the season in which she earned her third MVP -- but she is still playing at a high level.

Wilson is second in player efficiency (26.8), first in blocked shots per game (2.6), second in steals per game (1.9), second in rebounds per game (9.9) and second in points per game (21.6).

There's been a strange narrative swirling that has suggested Wilson is not playing especially well in 2025. Yet, most players could only dream of recording the numbers she is posting so far this year. Yes, the 28-year-old isn't averaging just under 26 points per game like she did a season ago, but Wilson is still enjoying a tremendous overall season.

Of course, the fact that Collier is playing at an elite level and her Minnesota Lynx hold the best record in the WNBA at 14-2 will only further establish herself as the 2025 WNBA MVP favorite. Either way, Wilson still deserves serious consideration. Additionally, the Aces have only played 16 games. Wilson has appeared in 13 of those games.

There is plenty of time for A'ja Wilson to make a legitimate run at yet another WNBA MVP award. Even if she does not win her fourth MVP in 2025, Wilson will probably end up finishing as a top three finalist.

The Aces' overall performance will be something to monitor. Las Vegas earned back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. They couldn't be stopped. In 2024, the Aces played well but fell short in the semifinals. So far in 2025, as mentioned, they have played well below expectations.

With A'ja Wilson on the roster, there is always a chance to turn things around, however. The Aces will attempt to accomplish that goal in their next game against the Fever in Indiana on Thursday night.
