The 2025 WNBA offseason is in full swing. Some big names will be suiting up for new teams in the upcoming season. Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally went to the Phoenix Mercury in blockbuster trades. Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones signed with the Atlanta Dream. Courtney Vandersloot is returning to the Chicago Sky. Kelsey Plum is headed to the Los Angeles Sparks, and Jewell Loyd to the Las Vegas Aces.

As a result of those moves, several draft picks have already been moved. Most notably, the Los Angeles Sparks sent the second overall pick to the Seattle Storm in the trade for Kelsey Plum.

Los Angeles failed to win the first-overall pick and the chance to select a generational talent for the second year in a row. Last year, the top pick went to the Fever, who drafted Caitlin Clark, and this year, it belongs to the Wings. Depending on who declares for the 2025 WNBA Draft and how the rest of the college season goes, the top pick is expected to be either Paige Bueckers or Olivia Miles. Bueckers still has theoption to add another year of college basketball to her resume.

No matter who is drafted first overall, the second pick is still incredibly valuable, especially for the Seattle Storm. They managed to turn a player who did not want to be with the team anymore into the chance to draft a future star and add a young talent to their core of Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins-Smith, and Ezi Magbegor. Meanwhile, the Sparks got an All-Star guard to play with their youngsters Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson and the Aces got a suitable replacement for Plum.

A bunch of lower first-round picks and some second-round picks also changed hands in the three blockbuster trades that have happened so far. As a result, the draft order looks much different. The Dallas Wings, Chicago Sky, and Washington Mystics still hold their lottery picks, and the Golden State Valkyries continue to own the fifth overall pick, but the Fever, for example, gave up their first-round pick in the three-team trade that sent Sabally to Phoenix.

One thing to keep in mind is that this year, there will only be twelve first-round picks instead of thirteen because the Las Vegas Aces lost their pick for violating league policies.
