With the NCAA season right around the corner, it is time for every expert, analyst, and fan to speculate which players are on course to have a standout campaign for their respective colleges. According to ESPN, the Richmond Spiders forward Maggie Doogan occupies the final spot in their top 25 players list, after leading her team to their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory with a 74-49 victory over Georgia Tech.

Doogan turned in a stellar performance during Richmond's first-round triumph, registering 30 points and 15 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 61.1% from the floor. However, this was far from an anomaly in the versatile forward's showings throughout the 2024-25 season.

Doogan boasts an interesting skill set

While names such as Lauren Betts, Azzi Fudd, and Olivia Miles may be considered as serious contenders to be named as an early first-round pick when the WNBA draft process rolls around again, the Spiders' talisman would be a valuable asset to a wide range of franchises.

During her junior year, Doogan showcased her multiskilled attributes and demonstrated that she is willing to take on any role that her teammates require of her, depending on the matchup that the opposition presents them.

The six-foot-two-inch wing averaged 17 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, but also recorded a career-high 40.6% from three-point range—an ability that is becoming more valuable in the new era of the WNBA.

Efforts of such high calibre should always be rewarded, and this was no different in the case of Maggie Doogan. She was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and was also named on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team.

In addition, she was then invited to the USA Basketball team trials ahead of the 2025 AmeriCup, showing how highly the young star is regarded by coaches and supporters at the collegiate level. Doogan was not selected for the final roster, as first-rate players such as Madison Booker, Flau'jae Johnson, and Gianna Kneepkens were taken to the tournament ahead of her.

Suppose the Richmond Spiders have any chance to improve on last season's astonishing NCAA Tournament antics. In that case, Doogan will have to take another leap in her impressive development as a devastating three-level scorer while also contributing to all other aspects of the game.

ESPN's list of the top 25 NCAA women's players is filled with extraordinary talent that is destined for the WNBA, especially given the expansion franchises entering the league. Despite being the last player on the rankings, Maggie Doogan has the opportunity to establish herself as one of the brightest stars in college this year.
