The 2026 season began about a month and a half ago and, inevitably, that time period produced plenty of thoughts and conversation about Caitlin Clark. To a degree, that just comes with the territory: Clark is arguably the most famous player in the WNBA, has a legion of fans, and has been attracting a tidal wave of attention since she was in college at Iowa. When she plays (or even she doesn't), people are going to talk.
There was plenty of chatter heading into this season because Clark missed so much action on the court last year. Fans and foes alike wanted to see what she would bring to the 2026 season, and, so far, that's been a lot.
Despite ups downs that have included low-scoring games and unexpected losses, Clark is actually having a pretty great 2026 season so far. Per the Indiana Fever, she even broke yet another record last night when the Indiana Fever hosted the Toronto Tempo. Her 2026 season is going well, it just might look a little different than what some people anticipated.
Caitlin Clark is still stacking records
Clark recorded a 21-point, 14-assist double-double last night against the Tempo last night, a stat that pushed her past 250-plus points and 100-plus assists. Per the Fever, Clark reached those numbers faster than any player has in a single season (and she still has plenty of season to go). She was also named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week yesterday, a first since her rookie season in 2024.
The Indiana Fever may not be the Eastern Conference champs for this year's Commissioner's Cup, but they currently have a 9-5 record and are ranked sixth in the league. Clark is averaging 20.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 8.3 assists this season while simultaneously making good on Stephanie White's promise she'd be playing off the ball more in 2026.
It seems that women's basketball in general will always generate conversation topics from around the internet, and Clark will inevitably be at the center of plenty of those for years to come. Her performance on the floor is ultimately the best way she can buoy fan support and silence detractors, and also allows her to send a message.
Clark also has plenty of other things going on this season. She's currently fifth in fan-based All-Star voting (per numbers that were released Wednesday), and the Fever announced her signature shoe will debut on October 1. The shoe will be priced at $140 and will be part of a multi-item signature line with Nike.
