A lot of people didn't take the Golden State Valkyries that seriously when owner Joe Lacob said he wanted a championship in the team's first five seasons in the WNBA. And that's fair — as has been covered over and over again lately, until the Valkyries rewrote the narrative, expansion teams didn't exactly have an impressive history in the league.

But things are different now. And, as Lacob pointed out at the team's celebration parade in the Bay Area this week, the Valkyries have everything they need to become repeat champions — they could win WNBA Championships over and over again. And this time around, people are paying more attention, and they're certainly taking Lacob seriously.

The Valkyries are building a dynasty in real time, basket by basket. And unlike previous WNBA Champions, this team has everything they need: the best facilities, an incredible home crowd, a talented roster that knows how to play together, a head coach that refuses to give up, and an ownership team that has no problem providing what's needed to be great. Champions need everything on that list, but the very last element cannot be overstated. If you want to win big, you have to invest — and that's what Lacob has done.

The rewards speak for themselves. It's impossible to imagine Ballhalla as anything other than a court where greatness is born.

There's a lot that could happen between now and next season. Free agency will hit, and the roster could see some shake-ups, whether that's players departing, players being brought to the team, or blockbuster trades. It's easy to get attached to a roster as it stands, and it also makes sense to keep a group of champions together as long as you can, but the WNBA is a business — and that means sometimes tough moves have to be made. The Athletic reported the team "plans to be aggressive" during free agency, and the team is not worried that stars won't want to come there. After all, they're winning.

Dynasties aren't built without a lot of thought, structure, and planning, and Golden State is deploying warp speed toward building its own. Names being floated as potential additions to the roster include the Indiana Fever's Kelsey Mitchell, who was the second-highest scorer in the WNBA in the 2026 season, and Napheesa Collier, who would be a strong addition to a roster that's already stacked.
