Team USA's 2025 training camp roster is out, and if there's one takeaway, it's this: the future is here, and USA Basketball is ready for it.
Training camp will take place from December 12-13 in Durham, North Carolina, and is an opportunity for players who haven't had the opportunity to play in the Olympics to learn from a few vets who know a thing or two. Appropriately, the roster includes Lauren Betts, Aliyah Boston, Cameron Brink, Paige Bueckers, Veronica Burton, Sonia Citron, Caitlin Clark, Kiki Iriafen, Angel Reese, Rickea Jackson, and JuJu Watkins. The group will be led by vets Kelsey Plum, Dearica Hamby, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Brionna Jones, and Kahleah Copper.
Of the group of vets, Plum, Young, Gray, Griner, and Copper were part of the gold medal-winning team at the Paris 2024 Games, and Hamby won a bronze medal in 3x3 basketball.
Most of the younger players have played with USA Basketball in the past, and Iraifen will be making her debut with the program.
USA Basketball is looking to the future of the game
Though it's unlikely the training camp roster will be the final team that takes the court in at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, it's nearly impossible to ignore the fact that this list is a significant shift in focus for USA Basketball as a whole.
The team will also welcome Duke's head coach Kara Lawson in the role previously filled by Cheryl Reeve. Lawson will be joined by court coaches Natalie Nakase, Nate Tibbets, and Stephanie White, and USA Women's National Team managing Director Sue Bird will be in charge of evaluating players ahead of the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin.
Training camp should mark Caitlin Clark's return to 5x5 basketball
The training camp in North Carolina is also likely to mark Caitlin Clark's official return to 5x5 basketball, a welcome reality for fans. Clark suffered a series of injuries throughout the 2025 WNBA season, a reality that changed the way the Indiana Fever played but didn't stop the team from achieving a franchise-best 24 wins under Coach White.
Clark only played 13 games during the 2025 season and suffered a series of injuries that began with tightness in her left quad and transitioned to a full-blown left groin injury. She averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, an 5.0 rebounds, a sign that 2025 could have been a strong year.
