The WNBA has never been a point guard's league. Forwards have dominated since the very first year, yet one of the biggest names the women's game has ever seen is Skylar Diggins. Now in year 11, she is striking a unique balance of her scoring and playmaking abilities that has her playing arguably the best basketball she has played in the WNBA.

Headed into this season it was cloudy for the Storm generally after longtime star Jewell Loyd requested a trade. Yet throughout everything, Diggins' on court production has been consistent, leading to her playing some of her best basketball and providing the Storm with whatever they are lacking on the offensive end.

Year 11 Skylar Diggins is elite

For the Storm as a whole this season it has been a bit of a rollercoaster. Some nights they look like legit contenders, and on other nights it feels like they play down to their competition. Currently, it has been good enough for fourth place in the WNBA.

One player more than anyone brings production and intensity for this Storm team and that is Skylar Diggins. Averaging 18.2 points a game to go along with 5.9 assists is good enough to lead the Storm in both categories. It is also Diggins' fourth highest points per game average and third highest assist average for a season in her career.

The main difference from those seasons to this one is her highest scoring and assists totals respectively normally don't fall in the same year like they are here in 2025. Her highest points per game average came in 2014 for the then Tulsa Shock with 20.1 points per game but that was paired with an average of 5 assists. Her highest assist average was actually last year at 6.4 assists per game but only 15.1 points.

Skylar Diggins has found a balance that works this season

So far this year it has been some of the best balance of scoring and playmaking that Diggins has been able to find over the course of her career. Her prowess on both sides of the ball reaching this point, was enough for Diggins to be named an All-Star Reserve (though plenty of people would argue she should have made the starting roster).

For Seattle to reach their potential as a contender this year, it is feeling increasingly important for Diggins to keep up this level of production. Striking the correct balance on any given night of when to go for her own shot versus finding others for theirs.

This balance feels like a full career build has occurred. The years where she was dominating the scoring averages and the years where she was aiming to find her teammates more. It led to this season which has the potential to be Diggins' most individually complete season yet.
