Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers have each made it clear that they're open to discussing anything relating to their individual and collective roles on the basketball court this season — and that's it. Despite that, there are still some corners of internet consumed with discussing the details of their personal lives.
Steph Curry has a connection to Fudd that goes back years. She's attended several of his basketball camps over the years, and her "Fudd Around and Find Out" podcast is hosted by Curry's media company, Unanimous Media. So it's fitting that Curry celebrated the fact that Fudd was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Dallas Wings this season, and made sure it's clear to him that she earned the enormous accomplishment.
"The energy around the WNBA Draft this year was unmatched, and seeing Azzi Fudd go No. 1 overall to the Dallas Wings was a special moment for the whole crew," Curry wrote in his most recent newsletter. He added that it's been a "full-circle journey" watching her career, and that the "world is getting a world-class person" by way of the WNBA.
Azzi Fudd makes her WNBA debut tonight
Fudd will play her first game in the WNBA since being drafted Thursday night when the Indiana Fever hosts the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. She's expected to start the game alongside Bueckers, and Wings fans are definitely hoping to see the two recreate some of their UConn magic.
The combination of Fudd and Bueckers is expected to give the Wings the boost the team needs to take things to the next level. The Wings had a disappointing 2025 season, but made major changes when they replaced last year's coach Chris Koclanes with Jose Fernandez.
As Greg Bibb, the CEO and managing partner of the Wings, told reporters during training camp, Fudd's arrival to the team couldn't come at a better time. Like a lot of teams in the WNBA, Dallas is experiencing a lot of growth as a franchise, which means more fans are coming to games and more fans are supporting the team. If the Wings can retain Bueckers and Fudd, they can build around the pair and maximize their skills alongside team veterans like Arike Ogunbowale and Alysha Clark.
Clark is a newcomer to the Wings. She previously played for the Washington Mystics, Seattle Storm, and Las Vegas Aces, and was part of a championship winning team with the latter.
After the game against the Fever, the Wings will play the Aces on May 3 and then will begin the regular season when they return to Indianapolis on May 9.
