The full 2025 WNBA All-Star rosters were announced on Sunday. After the results were made public, many analysts and fans began releasing their lists of the biggest snubs. An account on X (formerly Twitter) called I talk hoops shared a post with its five biggest All-Star snubs. The account listed the following players in order from one to five: Brittney Sykes, Dearica Hamby, Azura Stevens, Kayla McBride and Brionna Jones.
Hamby took notice of the post and shared an intriguing response.
"Whatever about me…. But taking 2, and NOT including the best player from a below 500 team is crazy," Hamby wrote.
What exactly was the Los Angeles Sparks star referencing? Although she didn't concern herself with her own All-Star snub, Hamby believes it's "crazy" that Sykes -- who she said is the best player on the Washington Mystics -- was not selected to the team. Yet, Washington had two other All-Stars despite the Mystics holding an 8-10 record.
A fan later accused Hamby of "hating" on Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron, two Mystics rookies who both made the All-Star team over Sykes.
"Hating… lol go find the clip on cams podcast where I said Kiki was hooping and proving ppl wrong," Hamby responded.
The fan then stated that it "feels like" Hamby is "discrediting" Iriafen and Citron. The comment led Hamby to clarify her initial post.
"I’m not discrediting them and that wasn’t my intention. They are and will continue to be very good. I just dont agree with not including her. That’s all. It’s really hard for a below 500 team to get 2+ all-stars. And when voting started… I think they all could’ve been. When I did a list.. I actually had all 3 of them," the Sparks forward wrote.
Hamby seemingly was not trying to discredit Citron and Iriafen. Rather, she felt that Sykes simply deserved a spot on the roster as well. There are serious arguments to be made for both Sykes and Hamby earning All-Star selections, but in the end they did not make the team.
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled for 8:30 PM EST in Indiana. Napheesa Collier and Caitlin Clark -- the WNBA All-Star team captains -- will look to lead their teams to victory. There are plenty of talented players set to participate in the game. Overall, WNBA All-Star Weekend projects to be full of excitement.
