Cameron Brink could be playing basketball again by the end of July. That's the latest update out of Los Angeles, news that has been buoyed by video of Brink practicing on court shared by sports reporter John W. Davis. Video Davis posted on X shows Brink spending Saturday morning in her own half court practice with the Sparks' practice players.

Brink has not yet returned to full practice with her teammates, but seeing her on the court is a positive sign. Her return to the floor will also be the first time the team has had the chance to play with a fully healthy roster all season.

Coach Lynne Roberts also spoke with Davis about Brink's potential return to the court. Roberts noted that Brink has missed many months of basketball, a reality that means it's "going to take time" before she's at 100% — but also emphasized that the Sparks would love to have the opportunity to play with the entire team available.

In addition to her "elite" defensive skills, Brink also brings a "boost" to the team's offense, Roberts added before she noted, "hopefully, we'll get her back by the end of this month."

What happened to Cameron Brink

Brink, the No. 2 overall draft pick for the Sparks in the 2024 WNBA Draft, played 15 games for the team before she tore her ACL and meniscus on June 18, 2024, which effectively ended her rookie season before she really had a chance to get going. She's been open about the recovery process, which has taken just over a year to date.

Since then, the Sparks have seen a coach swap and brought on new players during free agency, including veteran Kelsey Plum.

In May, Sara Jane Gamelli reported Brink was feeling "great" and was just taking her recovery "step by step." Brink also emphasized that the Sparks had offered their full support throughout the entire ordeal. "I'm thankful that I'm not getting any pressure from the org. The Sparks are doing a really good job of just supporting me fully through this process," she told Gamelli.

The Sparks have made a few roster changes

In addition to waiting for Brink's return, the Sparks have made a few roster changes in recent weeks. The team waived Odyssey Sims and released Shey Peddy on July 2 before signing Julie Vanloo, who was recently waived by the Valkyries, the next day. The Sparks also waived Mercedes Russell on July 12.
