Chicago Sky guard Hailey Van Lith is reportedly listed as questionable for the Chicago Sky's season opener due to an ankle injury, according to Karli Bell.
"Chicago Sky status report for their season opener tomorrow:
Moriah Jefferson (leg) is out
Hailey Van Lith (ankle) is questionable," Bell wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Hailey Van Lith dealing with early season injury trouble
Van Lith is a candidate to start for the Sky. The No. 11 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Van Lith's future is bright in the league. However, there is uncertainty about her status for Saturday's affair.
The 23-year-old is certainly hoping to make a big impact with Chicago. In 2024-25, she played with TCU, a season that ended up being her last in college. The guard averaged 17.9 points, 5.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per outing. She also shot 45.2 percent from the field and 33.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Van Lith's WNBA Draft status was in question following a down season at LSU in 2023-24. Her bounce back 2024-25 campaign cemented her status as a potential first round pick. Sure enough, Van Lith was selected by the Sky with the 11th overall pick in the first round.
In fact, Chicago even traded for the pick with the Minnesota Lynx. As a result, the Sky had back-to-back picks at 10 and 11, and it became clear that Van Lith could be in their plans.
It remains to be seen how serious her ankle injury is, but the fact that she's questionable could be considered promising. If the injury was serious, one would imagine that Van Lith would have been ruled out. Still, it will be a situation to closely monitor.
The Sky will provide updates as they are made available. If Van Lith is available she could play an important role against the Fever, a team with high expectations this year. Chicago would certainly love to begin the new campaign with a victory.
Fever vs. Sky game should be competitive
The Sky-Fever contest is scheduled for 3 PM EST in Indiana. There is a rivalry at play with Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark playing in the game. The matchup will receive plenty of attention without question.
Hailey Van Lith's final injury status may play a role in determining the outcome of the contest.
