The Seattle Storm recently re-signed forward Gabby Williams. It was an important move, as Seattle had previously traded Jewell Loyd to the Las Vegas Aces. Williams addressed her decision to return after re-signing with the team, via the Seattle Storm's account on X (formerly Twitter).
"Seattle, I'm back! This city, this team, and this fanbase mean so much to me, and I couldn't be more excited to keep building with the Storm," Williams said in a statement. "We have unfinished business, and I'm ready to keep growing with my teammates and staff."
The Storm knew free agency was going to be important this season. Seattle is in an interesting position. They could realistically compete in 2025, but it remains to be seen if they can make a championship run. The Storm have talent on the roster, but they may not be on the same level as the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx right now.
Still, the Storm could make some noise sooner rather than later. They will need to build around their best players while adding crucial depth. Re-signing Williams gives them an established veteran who offers leadership.
How Gabby Williams will help Seattle Storm in 2025
Williams, a 28-year-old forward, made her WNBA debut in 2018 with the Chicago Sky. She played in Chicago from 2018-2020 before taking 2021 off to focus on the Olympics. In 2022, she joined the Storm. She has played with the Storm since the '22 campaign, something that will not change anytime soon.
Williams did not join the Storm until late in the 2024 season following the Olympics. She played well in limited action, however, averaging 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game across 12 contests. Williams also shot 48.1 percent from the field.
Williams offers quality production on both ends of the floor. She can make a big impact on defense while still contributing at a respectable level on offense. The Storm understand how important she will be to their potential success in 2025.
However, will the Storm make a serious playoff run?
Well, it would not be surprising to see Seattle clinch a postseason spot. As mentioned, though, it remains to be seen how competitive they will be once the postseason begins. Anything can happen in the playoffs, however, so perhaps they will surprise the WNBA world in 2025.
At the moment, Gabby Williams is preparing to return for her fourth season in Seattle with the Storm.
