The 2025-26 college season features a ton of talent, including a stacked 2026 WNBA Draft class. Flau’jae Johnson is one of the players headlining that draft class. She finished fifth in ESPN’s latest ranking of women’s NCAA basketball players and is one of the faces of college basketball.
Johnson, alongside Lauren Betts, Olivia Miles, and Azzi Fudd is one of several college players expected to be drafted at the top of the 2026 WNBA Draft. Unlike in recent years, the top of this class is still wide open. Going into the 2025-26 college season, Lauren Betts and Spanish teen Awa Fam look like the top contenders for the first pick. However, strong seasons from Miles, Fudd, or Johnson could mix things up.
Flau’jae Johnson already has a clear vision to ensure that her senior season is just as successful as her first three seasons at LSU. In an interview with The Athletic’s Sabreena Merchant, Johnson said, “I want my numbers to keep getting better…my numbers have [been] better and better every year. I just want to continue to do that.”
Flau’jae Johnson has improved significantly since her freshman season
Johnson has started all but two games over her first three seasons at LSU, playing a big role even as a freshman. She averaged 11 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. The next season she upped her scoring, assist, and steal numbers significantly while also increasing her field-goal percentage on a higher volume. As a sophomore, Johnson also took a leap as a 3-point shooter, increasing her percentage from 33% on 2.9 attempts per game to 38% on 2.6 shots.
In her third season, Johnson took another step forward as a scorer, averaging 18.6 points on 46.8% shooting from the field and 38.3% from three, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 steals. She was the team’s second-leading scorer behind Aneesha Morrow and ranked third in assists per game.
If Johnson can continue that trend of steady improvement and up her numbers even further while also stepping up as a leader for LSU, it will only make her a more interesting draft prospect. ESPN’s latest mock draft has Johnson going fifth overall to the Sky, reuniting her with LSU teammate Angel Reese (if she is still around for the 2026 season) and bringing some much-needed scoring prowess to Chicago. The Sky aren’t the only team that could use a strong scorer and defender on the wing, though.
