Caitlin Clark is already on track to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award. The Indiana Fever star has played well throughout the 2024 season. Yet, she still has some doubters who believe she may be overrated. Clark silenced those doubters on Friday, though.
The Fever earned a 98-89 victory over the Phoenix Mercury. Clark led the Fever with a 29-point, 10-assist triple-double. It was a tremendous effort by Clark and the Fever to kick off the second half of the 2024 campaign on a positive note.
One has to wonder if Clark had some added motivation after getting snubbed from the USA women's Olympic team. The Mercury feature multiple players who were on the roster such as Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi, so perhaps Clark was especially inspired on Friday evening. Whether she had extra motivation or not, the fact of the matter is that Clark led the charge in what was a memorable performance.
Caitlin Clark, Fever make statement with big win
The Fever improved their record to 11-15 with the victory. They are now in sole possession of third place. Indiana had entered the break tied with the Chicago Sky for third in the Eastern Conference.
The Mercury are a good team. They have a number of experienced veteran players. Indiana's victory felt like a statement win. This Fever team might just have what it takes to make a serious playoff run.
Fever fans will surely feel confident moving forward with Caitlin Clark leading the way. Clark and Indiana will attempt to continue to silence the critics as the 2024 season continues.
