'Tis the season for NBA teams that were eliminated from the postseason to start to make decisions regarding their organizational structure. One of those teams is the New Orleans Pelicans, who missed the playoffs for the second time in four years.
The Pelicans have made several moves over the past couple of weeks. New Orleans fired David Griffin, the executive vice president of basketball operations, and replaced him with former Pistons GM Joe Dumars. The 61-year-old has begun to reshape the Pelicans' front office, which included parting ways with WNBA legend Swin Cash.
HoopsHype's Michael Scotto was the first to report the news on Thursday, and Cash confirmed it on social media, expressing gratitude to the city of New Orleans.

She had been with the Pelicans since 2019 and was promoted to senior vice president of basketball operations last offseason. One of Cash's focuses was player development, and she served as a mentor to several players, including Zion Williamson. Cash was one of the highest-ranked women in an NBA front office.

Cash is most well-known for her playing days. She won two championships at UConn (2000, 2002) and went on to spend 15 incredible seasons in the WNBA, where she won three titles (two with the Shock and one with the Storm) and was named an All-Star four times. Cash also won two Olympic gold medals.
She retired from basketball in 2016 and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021 and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.
Cash joined the New York Liberty in 2017 as the director of franchise development, before joining the Pelicans two years later. She was one of Griffin's first hires, and she'll leave New Orleans shortly after him.
