The New York Liberty are fresh off a WNBA championship and have continued to play well during the 2025 season. New York's 14-6 record is good for first place in the Western Conference standings. The Liberty trail only the 18-4 Minnesota Lynx for the best record in the WNBA. With the WNBA All-Star break right around the corner, though, New York announced a roster move. On Sunday, the Liberty made the decision to waive Marquesha Davis, according to the WNBA transactions page.
Davis, 24, is a 6'0" guard who made her WNBA debut in 2024 with New York. She appeared in 20 games a season ago, but recorded just 4.0 minutes per outing. In 2025, Davis has played in nine games while averaging 3.4 minutes per contest. As a result, her numbers do not exactly jump off the page. Overall, the guard has recorded a per game average of 1.1 points across her 29 games played.
Davis features potential, however. She could make a significant impact for a team in the correct situation. She simply needs the opportunity.
At just 24 years old, Davis could factor into a team's long-term plans. The Liberty already have a deep roster, so the fit is not the best. There are a number of teams in the WNBA that could certainly use a player such as Davis, though.
As for the Liberty, New York is looking to end its first half of the '25 campaign on a promising note. The Liberty have not been quite as dominant as one may have expected, but this is unquestionably still a championship caliber squad.
The Liberty will play the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night in what will be a competitive affair. New York will host the game at 7:30 PM EST. The contest will be the final game played before the upcoming WNBA All-Star break.
Overall, it has been a successful first half for New York. They have established themselves as one of the best teams in the WNBA once again. Sure, the Lynx have been incredible, but the Liberty are still among the championship favorites. It would not be surprising to see a Liberty-Lynx championship rematch.
For now, New York is focused on preparing for its game on Wednesday against Indiana. The Fever are more than capable of pulling off an upset, so the Liberty need to be ready to play their best basketball on Wednesday night.
