New responsibility turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Texas star

Rori Harmon is still growing and learning.

As the team’s starting point guard, Rori Harmon already carries a lot of responsibility. She has to ensure that Texas’s offense runs smoothly and her teammates get the ball in the right place at the right time. This season, Harmon also has increased responsibilities outside her role as the team’s point guard on the court. She has had to step up as a leader and teacher, guiding new and inexperienced teammates as they get used to their new surroundings.

While that is a lot of work and responsibility, it has also been great for Harmon’s development.

“We have a lot of seniors, but most of our seniors are pretty new too,” Harmon said when she appeared on The Ringer WNBA Show. “It’s just not a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge of how we do things here, so [I have had] to become more of a vocal leader—and not even just vocal, but showing them how it’s done. Players on our team learn in different ways. Not everyone is going to understand the same way, so now I can’t just say it out loud. Now, I have to show them. Now, I have to go on the court and do it.”

She also added, “It helps me get out of my own self. It helps me think about others and, I think, when you put others before you, that’s where you can grow and you can thrive as a person and a player.”

Harmon is the longest tenured player on her team’s roster

Harmon is in her fifth season at the University of Texas. Due to a knee injury that cost her most of the 2023-24 season, Harmon was able to return for a final run after her senior season. That makes her the most veteran and longest-tenured player on Vic Schaefer’s roster.

The only other players who have spent more than one season with the program before this season are Madison Booker and Sarah Graves, but the latter only played 12 total games before the 2025-26 season. Justice Carlton, Jordan Lee, Bryanna Preston, and Kyla Oldacre are all in their second season of playing for the Longhorns.

Aaliyah Crump, and Grace Prenter are freshmen. Lovisa Asbrink Hose transferred to Texas for her sophomore season, Breya Cunningham joined the team for her third season after two seasons in Arizona, and Ashton Judd and Teya Sidberry transferred for their senior seasons.

As the most experienced player on the roster and someone very familiar with Vic Schaefer’s system, Harmon has to act as a leader for her teammates and a connector between the coach on the sidelines and the new players.
