New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu is currently dealing with a neck injury. She is listed as questionable on the injury report for Wednesday's game against the Golden State Valkyries due to the injury, per SSN- New York Liberty. Meanwhile, Jonquel Jones (ankle) and Leonie Fiebich (overseas commitment) are both out.
Before her injury status was revealed, Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello provided an encouraging Ionescu update, via Kendra Andrews of ESPN.
"Sabrina Ionescu, who missed the Liberty’s last game with a neck issue, practiced today it’s hopeful she’ll be able to play against the Valkyries tomorrow, Sandy Brondello said. Brondello said they’ll see how Ionescu feels when she wakes up tomorrow and will go from there," Andrews reported on X (formerly Twitter).
Ionescu is one of the best players in the league. At 10-3, New York will be in a respectable position regardless of whether or not she is available. Of course, New York would love to have the star on the floor against an up-and-coming Valkyries squad.
Sabrina Ionescu questionable for Wednesday night's game
Ionescu, 27, is averaging 20.4 points, 5.2 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. The Liberty guard is shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep as well. She would like to be more efficient, but it has been an overall strong season for Sabrina Ionescu.
The Liberty hold a lead in the Eastern Conference standings. With that said, the Atlanta Dream entered their game on Tuesday only trailing the Liberty by just a half-game in the conference. The Liberty are hoping to hold their lead so taking care of business on Wednesday will be pivotal to say the least.
Ionescu's final injury status could go a long way towards determining the final outcome of the game on Wednesday night.
The Valkyries could pull off the upset against the Liberty, though. Golden State, an expansion team, is 7-6 to begin their first chapter in the WNBA. It is safe to say that the new expansion squad has exceeded expectations up to this point in the 2025 WNBA campaign.
Liberty-Valkyries game could be competitive on Wednesday night
The Liberty and Valkyries will play at 10 PM EST on Wednesday night in what could be a competitive contest. Liberty fans will want to pay close attention to New York's injury report before tip-off as the team monitors Ionescu's status for the game.
