New York Liberty forward Nyara Sabally is reportedly listed as questionable for the team's game against the Golden State Valkyries on Tuesday, per Jackie Powell.
"Nyara Sabally has been ruled as QUESTIONABLE (right knee) going into tomorrow night’s game against the Golden State Valkyries. She wasn’t in practice this afternoon as she was off at an previously scheduled appointment for her knee for maintenance," Powell wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Sabally, 25, has only appeared in two games with the Liberty this season. In those games, she has recorded 10 minutes per outing, averaging 4.0 points per game. During the 2024 campaign, Sabally played in 26 total contests and saw 13.5 minutes per game.
She may not play the most minutes, but Sabally provides important depth. New York -- fresh off a WNBA championship -- understands the importance of featuring reliable depth players on the roster.
Despite dealing with some injury trouble, the Liberty lead the Eastern Conference with a 3-0 record. Only the 4-0 Minnesota Lynx hold a better overall record in the WNBA. Minnesota and New York, of course, went head-to-head in the WNBA Finals a season ago. It would not be surprising to see a similar result this year.
The Liberty are currently focused on the upcoming game against the Valkyries, though.
Liberty preparing to host Valkyries
The WNBA's 13th franchise -- which is making its debut in the league this year -- is off to a 2-1 start in 2025. The Valkyries are not expected to seriously compete for a playoff spot yet, but they may be able to surprise the WNBA world.
Their matchup against the Liberty in New York will present one of their biggest challenges yet. New York is the reigning champion for a reason, so Golden State will need a complete team effort in order to upset the Liberty.
The Valkyries will enter the contest in fourth place in the Western Conference. They are ahead of talented teams such as the Las Vegas Aces and Los Angeles Sparks in the conference.
As for Sabally's injury status, the Liberty will provide updates ahead of tip-off on Tuesday night. New York would love to have the extra depth available.
The Liberty and Valkyries will play in New York at 7 PM EST in what could be a competitive contest as Golden State attempts to upset one of the best teams in the league.
