The New York Liberty defeated the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday to win their semifinals series. With the victory, the Liberty clinched a WNBA Finals appearance and caught the attention of the WNBA world. Additionally, NBA legend Pau Gasol took notice of the Liberty's win.

Gasol specifically mentioned Sabrina Ionescu, who led the Liberty with 22 points in the series-clinching victory. Ionescu added seven rebounds.

Breanna Stewart recorded an impressive 19-point, 14-rebound double-double in the win. Jonquel Jones added 14 points and six rebounds in the game. The Liberty utilized an all-around team effort to defeat the reigning WNBA champions.

The Liberty are currently waiting to find out who their WNBA Finals opponent will be. The Minnesota Lynx and Connecticut Sun series is even at two games apiece, so that series will be decided on Tuesday night as the series returns to Minnesota.

The Liberty will be an intimidating opponent for either team. New York was the best team throughout the regular season and that seemingly has not changed in the postseason. Perhaps the Liberty are truly a team of destiny.

Liberty preparing for 2024 WNBA Finals

With Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart leading the way, the Liberty will approach the WNBA Finals with confidence. With that being said, both Minnesota and Connecticut feature more than enough talent to pull off an upset. In fact, the Sun are working on a potential upset in their series against the Lynx.

Minnesota won the Western Conference and played well throughout the year. As a result, many fans expected to see the Liberty and Lynx ultimately end up going head-to-head in the WNBA Finals. Although that does remain a realistic possibility, the Sun should not be counted out.

Nevertheless, it projects to be a competitive WNBA Finals series regardless of who the Liberty's opponent ends up being.

One has to imagine that the Liberty will be watching the Sun and Lynx's Game 5 on Tuesday night. Not only will New York be studying each team closely, but they will simply want to watch a potentially exciting WNBA postseason contest in Minnesota.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM EST as the Lynx and Sun look to book their ticket to the 2024 WNBA Finals. Their reward will be far from ideal, however, as upsetting the Liberty will prove to be an immense challenge for either team without question.
