New York Liberty players Breanna Stewart and Nyara Sabally were reportedly limited to begin training camp, per Jackie Powell of The Next. Powell also shared the injury updates on both players.

"Stewie (Stewart) noted that she'll be more involved in live practice next week, ramping up for the May 9 preseason game. Sabally did what Sandy Brondello referred to as a 'pre-practice'. After playing in Turkey, NYL wants Sabally to recover," Powell wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Sabally is recovering after playing in Turkey during the offseason while Stewart previously underwent a partial meniscectomy. It seems as if both players won't have to miss much time. New York only has one preseason game, which as Powell mentioned is scheduled for May 9 against the Connecticut Sun. Stewart is seemingly planning to play in the contest.

Breanna Stewart hoping to return soon

Stewart, who landed a new contract with the Liberty this past offseason, is hoping to return sooner rather than later. The 30-year-old has consistently been one of the best players in the WNBA over the years. In fact, Stewart has finished top three in MVP voting in six of the past seven years, earning the award twice during that span. The only year she did not finish top three in MVP voting was 2019, a season in which she did not play due to an injury.

In other words, Breanna Stewart is a true superstar. She is unquestionably in the conversation for best player in the league, although A'ja Wilson leads that argument. Nevertheless, Stewart is not far behind.

In 2024, Stewart averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per outing across 38 games played. She also shot 45.8 percent from the field. Most importantly, Stewart led the Liberty to an exciting WNBA Finals victory.

Stewart looking to lead Liberty to another successful season

New York features an elite roster once again heading into the new campaign. As a result, the Liberty are expected to make another deep postseason run. It would not surprise anyone to see this Liberty team reach the WNBA Finals for a second consecutive season.

As long as injuries do not stand in the way, the Liberty will certainly be competitive once again. Breanna Stewart and Nyara Sabally's injury statuses will be worth monitoring as training camp continues. It seems as if both players will be alright moving forward, however.
