The Las Vegas Aces feature a talented team, but their 11-11 record is good for just fourth place in the Western Conference standings. A true contender in recent seasons, the Aces have clearly taken a step in the wrong direction in 2025. A'ja Wilson is still a star but she needs help. The Aces have two specific fixes they need to make following the All-Star break.
Las Vegas still projects to be a postseason team. Once the playoffs begin, anything can happen. The Aces are not considered to be a top championship contender at the moment, but that does not mean they can't make a deep playoff run and surprise the WNBA world. In order to do that, however, they must make the aforementioned fixes.
Aces' scoring efficiency
The Aces may need to consider trading for another efficient scorer or two. Las Vegas' 41.6 field goal shooting percentage is just 10th in the WNBA. Only the Dallas Wings, Golden State Valkyries and Connecticut Sun are below the Aces, and two of those teams are at the bottom of the league standings.
The Aces are eighth in three-point shooting percentage with a mark of 32.5 percent. They are closer to the middle of the league in long-range shooting, but the Aces still would not be considered a tremendous three-point shooting team.
Wilson leads Las Vegas with a 48.2 field goal percentage. Aaliyah Nye, Chelsea Gray and Jewell Loyd are all shooting over 37 percent from beyond the arc. The Aces have an opportunity to be a much more consistent scoring team. Adding another scorer or two could end up making a big difference.
The Aces are currently ninth in points per game (80.6 PPG). That number could see a drastic increase if Las Vegas properly addresses the roster.
Rebounding
One would imagine that a team with A'ja Wilson -- one of the best rebounders in the WNBA -- would be a quality rebounding team. Yet, this Aces squad is 10th in rebounds per game with 33.2. Rebounding may not be the most interesting statistic, but it is one of the most important. Crashing the glass is crucial in any team's journey to becoming a true contender.
Wilson holds the team lead in the statistic with 9.2 rebounds per game. The trade for NaLyssa Smith from the Wings has been significant, as she is second on the team with 5.5 rebounds per outing. Kiah Stokes is the only other player averaging five or more rebounds per game, though.
The Aces may want to consider adding at least one more consistent rebounder. Or, placing more of an emphasis on crashing the glass as a team could go a long way towards solving the concern.
