Arizona State women's basketball recently announced the hiring of Molly Miller as the program's next head coach. Miller, who coached Grand Canyon women's basketball this past season, received a message on X (formerly Twitter) from former Arizona State basketball star James Harden.
"Welcome to the Valley MM!" Harden wrote on Saturday.
Miller later responded to the Los Angeles Clippers star.
"Sun Devil Fam!!! Let’s gooooo!" she wrote.
With most of the attention on the NCAA Tournament at the moment, Arizona State's hiring may have been overlooked by some fans. However, it is an impactful signing without question. Miller will be missed at Grand Canyon, though. She coached at the program for five years and led Grand Canyon to a stellar 117-38 record during that span.
The NCAA Tournament moves forward, but Miller and Arizona State have a bright future ahead as they prepare for their partnership.
As for Harden, he spent two seasons at Arizona State. In 2007-08, the guard averaged 17.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per outing. He took a step forward in 2008-09, averaging 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game. It had become clear that Harden was ready for the NBA Draft by that time.
Harden has since established himself as a superstar at the NBA level. He will always be remembered at Arizona State for his strong college basketball career, however.
Molly Miller looking to build legacy with Arizona State women's basketball
Now Molly Miller is hoping to build her own legacy at Arizona State. She has already established herself as a tremendous head coach at the college basketball level, but leading the Sun Devils will be a new challenge.
Natasha Adair, who coached Arizona State women's basketball for the past three years, recorded a lackluster record of just 29-62 with the program. Arizona State is hopeful that Miller can turn the team around. Patience will be required, though, as the program is seemingly going through a rebuild of sorts.
Nevertheless, Miller's track record suggests she can make a difference. Her previous success will not be easy to replicate, but Arizona State could get back on track sooner rather than later with the new head coach.
Meanwhile, Grand Canyon will have a difficult time trying to replace Molly Miller. She is one of the better head coaches the program has ever had.
Miller, however, is set for her next chapter as a college basketball head coach.
