UConn women's basketball improved to 7-0 for the 2024-25 season with an 88-52 victory over Holy Cross on Tuesday. Although UConn earned a convincing victory, head coach Geno Auriemma still sent a hilarious warning to his team after the win, via UConn on SNY.

"Holy Cross played in the first half like they were number five in the country," Auriemma said. "We played like we were unranked, which may be the case come December 21."

UConn is currently ranked No. 2 overall. The chances of the team becoming unranked are slim. Auriemma made the comment with a smile on his face. Nevertheless, his comment will catch the attention of the UConn women's basketball team.

UConn women's basketball defeats Holy Cross

Paige Bueckers has received plenty of attention this year, but it was Sarah Strong who led UConn on Tuesday. Strong finished the game with 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists. It was a quality effort for Strong without question.

Kaitlyn Chen added 14 points, seven assists and one rebound. Bueckers, meanwhile, scored 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. Bueckers still made a big impact despite not scoring at a high level like she usually tends to do.

UConn's depth was on full display against Holy Cross. They have a number of players who are more than capable of playing an important role. In fact, Azzi Fudd, who features the ceiling of a star, scored only seven points. There will be plenty of games where she plays at a much more consistent level.

UConn's outlook is bright. They have a realistic opportunity to make a championship run this year.

What's next for UConn?

UConn has a challenging schedule moving forward. They will play No. 22 Louisville on Saturday before going head-to-head with No. 10 Notre Dame next Thursday. Following a December 15 matchup against Georgetown, UConn will go head-to-head with No. 20 Iowa State on December 17 and No. 6 USC on December 21.

Will UConn be able to remain undefeated? It is possible, but it will be difficult. Regardless of whether or not they lose a game, UConn will likely continue to play at a high level. They feature one of the best all-around rosters in all of women's college basketball.

At the moment, UConn can celebrate their victory on Tuesday. However, they will not wait long before turning their attention toward preparing for their game on Saturday against Louisville.
