After the excitement around Dominique Malonga‘s first WNBA season, last year’s Storm rookie Nika Mühl has flown under the radar—largely because she missed the entire season with an injury.
In 2024, Mühl was the only rookie on the Storm’s roster. The Storm drafted her with the fourteenth overall pick in the second round. While making the team was a big accomplishment for a second-round pick, Mühl didn’t play much. She only averaged 3.6 minutes over 16 games. The only time she played more than 10 minutes was in an 89-70 win over the Phoenix Mercury. She recorded two points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 14 minutes on the court.
Mühl never got to play her sophomore season. She tore her ACL in October 2024 while playing for the Turkish club Besiktas. So, it has been a while since Storm fans saw Mühl in action. A year after tearing her ACL, Mühl is back on the court, and her first three games were impressive after such a long absence.
Nika Mühl is playing well for Sopron Basket so far
Nika Mühl is spending the 2025-26 season with the Hungarian club Sopron Basket. While she hasn’t played a EuroLeague game yet, she has already played in three games in the top Hungarian league. All three wins were blowouts. Sopron scored over 100 points in two games and 95 in the other.
Mühl started all three games and played between 17 and 20 minutes. In her debut, she recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists—a solid stat line for a young guard just returning from a serious injury. Her second game was even more impressive. Mühl finished that game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 11 assists, and 1 steal.
She also scored very efficiently in all three games, averaging 44.4% shooting on two-point field goals and 54.5% from three. The 3-point shooting, if Mühl can keep it up, bodes well for her next season with the Storm. Seattle only had very few good volume shooters this season. Erica Wheeler, Nneka Ogwumike, and Skylar Diggins were the only players to shoot at least four threes per game, and none of them shot better than 38%. Tiffany Mitchell and Zia Cooke reached that mark, but neither played a huge role or took a lot of shots.
Mühl may not be one of Sopron’s leading scorers right now, but she has been a steady, productive presence in her first few games, and that is a great sign after she missed so much time with a serious injury.
The 24-year-old will make her EuroLeague debut and face some tougher competition on October 8 against Charleville-Mezieres. EuroLeague kicks off with a group phase. This year, Sopron is in a group with Beretta Famila Schio, Flammes Carolo Basket, and Galatasaray Cagdas Faktoring. Schio and Galatsaray feature plenty of WNBA talent. The former has Cecilia Zandalasini and Jessica Shepard on its roster, while the latter features Dorka Juhasz, Elizabeth Williams, and Marine Johannes.
