Odyssey Sims is 33 years old and played 11 WNBA seasons before the 2025 season. She was an All-Star and All-WNBA Second Team member in 2019. Nevertheless, Sims’ career hasn’t always been easy. Between 2022 and 2024 Sims played on several hardship contracts. She entered the 2025 season with the Sparks on a regular contract after making it through training camp. Then, she was waived in July and had to prove herself on a hardship contract yet again.

Sims has made the most of her time with the Fever, leaving absolutely no doubt that she belongs on a WNBA roster and can help a competitive team win.

Sims joined the Fever in August after Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham all suffered season-ending injuries, and the Fever were left without a point guard. Sims found her stride with the Fever quickly, putting up 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists in just her third game and helping the Fever to a 99-93 overtime win against the Sun.

Since then, Sims has started every game she played with the Fever and has been one of the most productive players on the roster in the playoffs so far.

Sims proved that she can impact winning at the highest level

Kelsey Mitchell has been the driving force behind the Fever’s playoff success, averaging a team-high 26 points along with three assists and one steal per game. Sims has also left her mark on the Fever’s postseason success. She is averaging 12 points—the second-most on the team—4.5 assists, and 2 steals per game.

Sims’s performance in the semifinals opener against the Aces was her most impressive playoff outing with the Fever so far. She finished the game with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Sims also had the second-highest plus/minus on the team.

Sims went from being cut by a lottery team to taking over as the starting point guard for a team with big playoff aspirations. Since she has joined the Fever, they secured the sixth seed going into the playoffs, upset the Dream in the first round, and handed the Aces their second postseason loss. Sims has been a big part of that success, proving that she can help a team win at the highest level as well as in the regular season. That should bode well going into next season when Sims will have to secure a new contract with a WNBA team.
