The Indiana Fever lost a good portion of the team's roster to injury during the 2025 season: Caitlin Clark went down with groin and ankle injuries, Aari McDonald broke her foot, and multiple players suffered torn ACL and MCLs, including Sophie Cunningham, Chloe Bibby, and Sydney Colson.
This week Colson offered fans a peek into her recovery by way of a video shared on TikTok that showed the guard running in the Fever's practice gym in Indianapolis. The updates comes approximately four months after she underwent surgery to repair her torn ACL, and is a great sign for fans who are hoping to see her back in a Fever jersey in 2026.
Colson suffered her injury during a game against the Phoenix Mercury on August 7. She was characteristically open and even funny about the injury, and went live on Instagram two weeks later after she woke up from the repair surgery.
Colson included audio from the movie Forrest Gump from the scene in which the younger version of Forrest sheds his leg braces and begins to run. "4 months post-op," Colson captioned the clip.
Sydney Colson is set to join AU Pro Basketball in January
Colson's update is a good one for Indiana Fever fans, but it's an even better one for fans of AU Pro Basketball. Colson has played in the league for several years, and is currently listed as playing in 2026 when games begin. It's not completely clear if she's in full basketball shape, but the video could be a sign that fans can expect to see her on the court in some capacity.
AU Pro Basketball will begin the program's second season in Nashville in 2026. The league will feature a huge collection of current and former WNBA players, including Ariel Atkins, Sarah Ashlee Barker, Kierstan Bell, Lexie Brown, and more.
The league is one of several options that gives WNBA players the ability to stay in the United States, and therefore closer to their homes, family, and friends, during the offseason instead of traveling overseas to play pro basketball. Several players will also join Unrivaled for the league's second season, which begins in early January.
Both leagues may face a bit of competition from Project B, a women's pro 5x5 basketball league that is projected to kick off its first season in November 2026. Though many details about the league have yet to be shared, the roster currently includes high-profile players like Colson's Fever teammates Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Mitchell.
