Awa Fam is the top international prospect in the 2026 WNBA Draft. She began her professional career when she was only fifteen, represented the Spanish national team on several occasions, and might have the highest ceiling in her draft class, partly because of her talent and partly because she is so much younger than the top college players.

Fam is widely expected to be drafted in the lottery—maybe even first overall by the Dallas Wings. The Wings only won ten games last season. They need young talent to ensure a brighter future. A big like Awa Fam would be a great fit next to Paige Bueckers. For Fam, landing in Dallas would also have certain advantages. Fam said in a recent interview with Hunter Cruse that playing in the WNBA had been a dream of hers for a long time. Landing with the Wings ahead of the 2026 season wouldn’t just give her the opportunity to fulfill that dream. It would also allow her to play meaningful minutes right away and fill a much bigger role than the Lynx, for example, would offer her.

Moreover, going to Dallas is on Fam’s bucket list. Fam revealed in her interview with Hunter Cruse that she hasn’t been to the United States yet, but has some cities she wants to visit. Dallas made the list. “For me, my top list is Los Angeles, of course….Dallas, too, because I have one friend there and she said, ‘This is amazing. You have to come here.’ So, Dallas, too, and maybe Chicago,” Fam said.

Awa Fam would make a lot of sense in Dallas

This upcoming draft marks the first one in a while in which the top pick wasn’t already obvious before the college season tipped off. Last year, there was no doubt that Paige Bueckers would go first. The year before, Caitlin Clark was the consensus number-one pick. In 2023, Aliyah Boston was an easy selection at the top of the draft. The 2026 draft is quite different. Several players have the talent to go first and could fill immediate needs for the Wings.

Lauren Betts was widely expected to go first before the start of the college season due to her unique size, skill in the paint, and rim protection—a skill set the Wings could still use. The Wings could also stage a UConn reunion and draft Azzi Fudd. Curt Miller already knows that Fudd and Bueckers play well together, and the Wings desperately need 3-point shooting. Fudd is the best 3-point shooter in the draft.

Fam is the third player who would make a ton of sense in Dallas. She may be young, but she has been playing against professionals for years now and still has some untapped potential. As a versatile big with plenty of room to grow, Fam could be the perfect piece to develop next to Paige Bueckers. The two could form a lethal pick-and-roll duo, and Fam’s passing ability could help Bueckers with the playmaking responsibilities.
