It has been a challenging season for the Connecticut Sun to say the least. Connecticut's 3-18 record not only has them sitting in last place in the Eastern Conference standings, but it is the worst record in the entire WNBA. The Sun's offseason led many to believe they would struggle in 2025 -- and sure enough, that has been the case. On Sunday, the team made two roster moves, waiving both Jaelyn Brown and Haley Peters, per the WNBA transactions page.
The Sun moved on from players such as Alyssa Thomas and DiJonai Carrington this past offseason. Connecticut's new roster has yet to find consistency, however. The team will now look to move forward without Brown and Peters.
Brown, 26, averaged 3.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per outing across 10 games played with the Sun. She shot just 37.8 percent from the field, but Brown recorded a 44.4 three-point shooting percentage on 1.8 three-point attempts per game.
The 26-year-old made her WNBA debut with the Dallas Wings during the 2024 campaign. She ultimately appeared in 14 total contests with Dallas. Brown a 6'1" player who can help out at both shooting guard and small forward, provides versatility. It would not be surprising to see her receive another opportunity with a team sooner rather than later.
Peters, meanwhile, is 32 years old and stands 6'3". She made her WNBA debut in 2016. However, she had not played in the league since 2019 before joining the Sun for the '25 season.
With Connecticut, Peters averaged 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest while playing in 19 total games. She also shot 35.1 percent from the field.
Peters is a veteran who could draw the attention of teams around the WNBA. She is another versatile player who could help a contender in need of veteran depth. Peters may also interest rebuilding teams. She is someone who could help younger players looking to take steps forward in their careers.
The Sun are clearly rebuilding in 2025. Their rebuild may require a few years at the very least, as Connecticut is not anywhere near contending at the moment. Nevertheless, the Sun will attempt to finish the first half of the WNBA season strong. Connecticut will host the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night before the upcoming WNBA All-Star break. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM EST as the Sun try to upset the Fever at home.
