Chiney Ogwumike is proud of her sister.

On Monday, it was revealed that Nneka Ogwumike, Chiney's sister and a Seattle Storm forward, was selected as a 2025 WNBA All-Star Game starter. Chiney, a former WNBA All-Star who now works as an ESPN analyst, received the opportunity to break the news to Nneka on live television, via SportsCenter.

During a segment on ESPN's Vibe Check, Chiney took some time to go on her phone and FaceTime Nneka. She was not sure if her sister had heard the news when she made the call.

"What up, family! How you doing sis? I don't know if you got a call," Chiney said once Nneka answered the phone.

It's difficult to hear exactly how Nneka responded, but Chiney, along with other ESPN analysts on the show, reacted in an excited manner as if they were indeed breaking the news to Nneka.

"Congrats... You're an All-Star starter," Chiney told Nneka.

Nneka, Chiney Ogwumike's careers in the WNBA

One has to imagine that Nneka was excited. It is certainly an honor to start the WNBA All-Star Game. Of course, Ogwumike is no stranger to receiving impressive honors. A nine-time All-Star, Ogwumike is one of the best players in the WNBA. She is also a former MVP and Rookie of the Year Award winner.

So far in 2025, Ogwumike is averaging 17 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.2 and 1.4 steals per outing. Nneka is shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 36 percent from deep.

Nneka is a star without question, but Chiney also had a good career. The 33-year-old also earned a Rookie of the Year Award. She made two All-Star teams in her career as well. Overall, she averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Chiney shot 53.5 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three-point land.

Chiney may not play in the WNBA anymore, but she clearly still supports her sister. Nneka's Storm are playing well, as Seattle holds a 10-7 record. The Storm are in third place in the Western Conference standings, trailing only the Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury.

It has been a quality start for Seattle. The Storm will likely be a playoff team during the '25 campaign. They feature the potential to make serious noise in the WNBA postseason as well. With Nneka Ogwumike leading the way, the Storm will be a team to watch as the season moves forward.
