The Chicago Sky are preparing for the 2025 WNBA season. Although Chicago does not have a selection in the upcoming 2025 WNBA Draft until the No. 10 overall pick, they could still drastically improve the roster in the draft. As a result, making the best possible selection for their current roster will prove to be crucial.
Sky's roster need: Draft a point guard
The Sky would like to compete in 2025. Their '25 draft pick will be a move for the long-term future, however. Chicago was able to bring in guard Courtney Vandersloot this offseason with Chennedy Carter unlikely to return. Vandersloot is 36 years old, though, so she isn't the long-term option at the point guard position.
The Sky should look to target a point guard in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Kentucky's Georgia Amoore may be a quality selection. She is a reliable play-maker who can score at a respectable level. Amoore's ability to knock down the three-ball adds value to her outlook. There are no guarantees that she will still be available once the Sky are on the clock, though.
TCU's Hailey Van Lith, who has reestablished herself as a top prospect this year, would also be a good fit. Selecting Van Lith would reunite her with Angel Reese, as the two played together in 2022-23 at LSU.
Amoore or Van Lith, who are projected to be selected late in the first round, would be quality additions for a Sky team searching for a long-term answer at point guard.
Sky building around Angel Reese
Angel Reese is the franchise superstar. Chicago is building around Reese. Kamila Cardoso is also part of Chicago's long-term plan. While the forward outlook appears to be bright, bringing in a young point guard with a high-ceiling would be a good move.
Van Lith is arguably a better option than Amoore for the Sky, however, that doesn't mean she is the better player. Amoore has potential and could be a star in the WNBA. As mentioned, though, the Sky are building around Reese. Reuniting the star forward with her ex-college teammate would not be a bad idea.
It is worth noting that Van Lith endured a down season during her year at LSU. Still, Reese and Van Lith are familiar with each others' games. There may already be a crucial element of chemistry between the two players.
With all of that being said, drafting Amoore would be a good move as well. As long as the Sky add a point guard for the future, they will properly address their biggest roster need.
