Caitlin Clark is on fire right now. She's scored in the double-digits in nearly every game (except for two) the Indiana Fever guard has played this season, and she's reached milestones and crossed barriers that, in some cases, literally no one else in the league has ever touched.
One of those milestones was reached this week when the Fever hosted the Dallas Wings and beat the team 98-87. Clark finished that game with 29 points and 10 assists, a performance that was also the 20th time in her career she has recorded at least 20 points and 10 assists in a game — and that number is double what anyone else in the league's history has done.
Arriving to this spot has been a long time coming for Clark, who was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick by the Fever in 2024. Her rookie season was electric and fun, and saw the team make a push toward the playoffs with then-head coach Christie Sides. Clark and the rest of the Fever welcome head coach Stephanie White ahead of the following season, and all signs pointed toward the fact that the team planned to make a major playoffs push — if not win the entire WNBA Championship — in 2025.
But then, as many fans well remember, Clark suffered a series of injuries that ultimately put an end to her season. And though she was a near-constant presence on the sidelines, alternately deriding refs and cheering on her teammates, it wasn't the same as seeing her play on the court. Clark came into this season clear that she wanted to hoop, and that's what she's been doing.
That's despite all the headlines and news that has swirled around the Fever this season — and much of it has had little to do with what's happening on the court. Some of that has been due to actions and statements made by players on the team, and some of it has been due to online rumors and trolls whose words sparked discord among fans, and prompted White to speak out.
It would be easy for Clark to let this derail her season, but she's instead putting in performances that we haven't seen from her so far in her WNBA career. If anyone still thinks Clark doesn't have what it takes to be great, this season is doing a lot to prove them wrong.
