It’s a brand-new season for the Fever. While the team’s core and goals haven’t changed from last season, the roster looks quite different, and some players enter the new season with a different focus. One of those players is Caitlin Clark.

Clark has made it her mission to focus more on her body and health than she did before—or than she might want to—to avoid another frustrating season.

“I’m the person that doesn’t want to sit out a single rep,” Clark said on day one of training camp. “I want to be in there every single time. I just love competing, and I love playing, and none of that has changed, but I think just being a little bit smarter with my body and understanding what it takes, and I think especially through camp. These days are really long, you’re on the court two-and-a-half, three hours, and putting in a lot of stuff. So, taking care of my body at this point in the season is probably the most important thing.”

That may not be the most fun focus to have going into a new season, but it’s a necessary one and it should pay off quickly.

2025 was a difficult season for Clark and the Fever

After a record-breaking rookie season that saw the Fever return to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, Clark only played 13 games in her sophomore season. She dealt with a groin injury and a bone bruise in her left ankle.

It was a difficult change of pace for Clark, who had never missed much time with an injury before and had to adjust to being on the bench while her teammates battled out games without her.

Clark wasn’t the only player who struggled with injuries, either. The Fever had horrendous injury luck. Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, and Chloe Bibby all suffered season-ending injuries as well. So, the Fever were forced to bring in new players like Odyssey Sims, Ariel Powers, and Shey Peddy and hope that they could adjust on the fly. Sims, especially, delivered. She was instrumental in the Fever’s deep playoff run that saw them one win short of making the finals.

Still, the Fever desperately want to avoid a repeat of that and hope to get a fully healthy season from Clark yet again. With Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell, this Fever team looks like a contender, but any bit of bad injury luck can change their fortunes if teams like Las Vegas, New York, and Atlanta stay healthy.
