Angel Reese shot a perfect game last night against the Los Angeles Sparks, and ended the night with 20 points, three steals, eight assists, and 10 rebounds on 9-for-9 shooting. The Atlanta Dream won the game 124-88, and, with her performance, Reese reminded everyone why the team signed her in the first place — and showed a glimpse of things to come.
Reese also became the third player in WNBA history to record a 20-point double-double on 100% shooting. She broke her own offensive rebound record and added on her 25th double-double of the season. At his point, only Alyssa Thomas has more double-doubles with 28.
On top of that, Reese became the first player in league history to 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists at a 100 percent field goal percentage in the game's first half.
Reese knew how the game would go from the beginning
While speaking to reporters after the game, Reese said she was "in the mode" and "knew what kind of game it was going to be from the first steal I got." With that kind of the energy behind her, the game became about maintaining her shooting. Though many criticized Reese following a disappointing loss to the Indiana Fever last week, the Dream's head coach Karl Smesko pointed out she's "had two excellent games since then" and stated the obvious: "hopefully it's just something to build on from here."
Reese's performance against the Sparks Thursday night is an excellent example of everything she is capable of: shooting, rebounding, and defense. As she noted, sometimes everything comes together exactly when a player needs it to, and last night was that night for Reese.
The Dream has six games left in the season. The team will travel to Phoenix to meet the Mercury Saturday night, then will return to Los Angeles on August 24. From there, they'll play the Portland Fire on August 28 before returning home to host the Minnesota Lynx on August 30. Their final two games will be at home against the Connecticut Sun (September 17) and Chicago Sky (September 19).
Despite some of the outsized and unwarranted criticism she's received this season, Reese has put in excellent work in Atlanta. In 2026 she became the fastest player in the history of the league to earn 1,000 career rebounds, and broke the Dream's franchise record for rebounds after only 32 games. She's in her third year of professional basketball, with plenty of time ahead of her — and last night's game as very, very likely only a sign of things to come.
