Chicago Sky star Angel Reese has dealt with her share of doubters over the past couple of years. Although Reese has established herself as a star, there are still critics. However, Reese recently recorded a jaw-dropping performance that will make anyone hesitant to question her game. According to espnW, Reese led Rose BC to a win while scoring 22 points and finishing with 21 rebounds.
The Sky star has continued to improve in Unrivaled. Reese is among the best players in the league, but she wanted to improve in a few specific areas. She would benefit from increasing her overall scoring efficiency, which it appears she is accomplishing this offseason.
Angel Reese's rookie season
One of the primary storylines throughout the 2024 WNBA season was the Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark rivalry. Both players have attempted to ignore the noise while focusing on helping their teams, though.
Although Reese did not have a perfect rookie campaign, she accomplished no shortage of historic feats. She established herself as an elite rebounder and respectable defender as well. The forward ultimately recorded scoring averages of 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per outing. She shot just 39.1 percent from the field, though, which is why she wants to become more efficient as a scorer.
Reese entered Friday averaging 12.1 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest in Unrivaled. Of course, it is a 3v3 league so directly comparing the statistics is unfair. She is playing well, though, which was evidenced by her performance on Friday evening.
Chicago Sky's 2025 outlook
The Sky want to contend in 2025. Chicago is looking to build a contending roster around Angel Reese. Sure, she has dealt with doubters, but Reese is a franchise star. Young players such as Reese and Clark are poised to lead their teams for years to come.
The Sky likely still have a year or two before they will emerge as truly serious contenders. Chicago is not yet at the same level as top-tier contenders like the New York Liberty, Las Vegas Aces and Minnesota Lynx. Of course, anything can happen during the postseason, however.
At the very least, the Sky project to be a playoff contender. Reese suffered a late-season injury in 2024 which obviously negatively impacted Chicago's postseason pursuit. If Reese can stay healthy throughout the 2025 campaign, then the Sky could make some noise in the postseason.
