Angel Reese has improved in 2025. She's taken a step forward in multiple areas of her game. The Chicago Sky star still receives criticism, but Reese has scored at a more efficient level while increasing her play-making ability. There is one specific concern, however. Reese is turning the ball over at an alarming rate.
Angel Reese's turnover problem
An uptick in turnovers was to be expected as Reese transitioned into a point-forward role. In 2024, Reese averaged 2.2 turnovers per outing as a rookie. That mark has sky-rocketed to 4.0 turnovers per game during the 2025 campaign.
A forward turning the ball over 4.0 times per game is obviously far from ideal. The point-forward role was always destined to lead to a turnover increase, but Reese is still struggling in the area at a concerning rate. The underlying percentage further tells the story.
Reese has seen her turnover percentage increase from 13.1 percent in 2024 to 22.9 percent in 2025. Overall, only Caitlin Clark averages more turnovers per game with a mark of 5.1. Clark's turnover problem has been a concern despite her early success in the WNBA as well.
For Reese, it wasn't truly a problem until the 2025 campaign. Still, 2025 has been a quality season for the most part for Reese.
Reese playing well for the most part
Aside from the turnover concern, Reese is playing an improved brand of basketball. Her true shooting percentage has increased to 52.7 percent after she shot just 46.4 percent in 2024. She's also recording a 19.0 player efficiency rating as compared to her 2024 mark of 17.6.
Reese is currently averaging 14.2 points, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks per game, all of which are improvements from 2024. Her 12.6 rebounds per outing is technically a decrease, but it's still the best mark in the WNBA. Additionally, Reese has increased her field goal percentage (44.4 percent in 2025 from 39.1 percent in 2024).
The Sky are just 7-19 overall, but Reese is doing everything she can to help her team. Chicago's struggles are not her fault.
In the end, Angel Reese still has work to do. She can certainly improve her efficiency around the basket. As discussed in-depth earlier, she needs to find a way to limit turnovers. With that being said, Reese is continuing to trend in a promising direction overall despite what some of the critics have said.
