As it stands now, Angel Reese will be back in blue for the Chicago Sky next season. While speaking to reporters after the first day of USA Basketball's training camp Friday, Reese emphatically stated, "I'm under contract [for next year]. I guess I plan on returning to the Sky [and] continuing to talk to Tyler."
Reese didn't offer much more insight into the decision, and it's fair for her to note that right now, she couldn't leave the team if she wanted to. While plenty of fans have wondered if the Sky might set up a trade deal for her — a conversation that grew louder after Reese paired up with Paige Bueckers for a recent promotional shoot — there's not a lot she can do on her own while she's under a rookie contract.
While speaking on the 2026 season, Reese also emphasized that she's paying a lot of attention to the ongoing CBA negotiations taking place between the league's leadership and the players. "I think it's really important for this generation," she said, "especially for me, in my class and going forward. I think it's important to be really involved."
Everyone on the players' side is "very intentional about what we want," she continued. "And I think the players and the WNBPA have done a great job making sure we're all together."
Angel Reese has recovered from her back injury
Reese also told reporters she has recovered completely from the back injury that plagued portions of her 2025 season. "I recovered at the end of the season," she said. "I was all good. So [I'm] just continuing to do recovery on my whole entire body and [will] figure it out going into year three. That was my focus is off season, just being completely healthy."
The Sky didn't have the best 2025 season; the team closed things out with a 10-34 record and in twelfth place in rankings. Reese vented her frustration with how the team was performing in September and was suspended for half a game, and then she ended up never returning to the court for the team after injuring her back.
Since then, plenty of fans have wondered what Reese's future with the team will be. Now that she's confirmed she expects to play for the Sky, fans can rest easy — that is, perhaps until Reese is eligible for her own round of free agency in the future.
