Chelsea Gray led Rose to an Unrivaled championship victory against Vinyl on Monday night. Rose ultimately defeated Vinyl by a final score of 62-54, making history in the process by becoming the first ever Unrivaled champions. Gray, who also plays for the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, was selected as the Unrivaled Finals MVP. The Rose and Aces star had a message for her critics after the win.
"Keep that same energy," Gray said, via Callie Fin. "I got the receipts, who's talking sh*t."
Gray did not hold back with her message. The six-time WNBA All-Star continued to silence her doubters on Monday night with both the team victory and the Finals MVP. Gray ended up recording 18 points, eight assists and three rebounds. She had plenty of help in the win as well.
Brittney Sykes led Rose with 21 points. Meanwhile, Azura Stevens contributed a 19-point, 18-rebound double-double. It was a complete team effort as Rose earned the win.
Overall, the Unrivaled season was a success. There were plenty of players who saw genuine improvement. Of course, the stars played at high levels, as Napheesa Collier took home MVP honors. In the end, though, it was Chelsea Gray and Rose who won the championship.
Chelsea Gray looking to carry momentum into 2025 WNBA season
Although Gray was an All-Star in 2024, she had a down season by her standards. Gray's 8.6 points per game was her lowest mark since her second WNBA season in 2016. She also saw her three-point shooting decline. For her career, Gray is a 38.2 percent shooter from beyond the arc, but she shot just 33.8 percent from the three-point line last year.
This is the same player who finished seventh in WNBA MVP voting in 2023, however. She also played a pivotal role in the Aces' back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. It would not be surprising to see the 32-year-old get back on track and enjoy a big season in 2025. She is certainly off to a strong start with her play in Unrivaled.
Now Gray and the rest of the Unrivaled players will begin to set their focus on the upcoming WNBA campaign. They will have over a month to get ready with the season not beginning until May, but there will be an attention shift with Unrivaled coming to an end.
At the moment, though, Chelsea Gray and Rose should enjoy their historic championship.
