The Las Vegas Aces have endured an up and down start to the 2025 campaign. Las Vegas' 4-3 record is good for third place in the Western Conference. The Aces have yet to play up to their potential. On Wednesday, though, the team made an addition that will give them a boost. The Aces signed forward Joyner Holmes to a contract, the team announced on X (formerly Twitter).

Holmes, 27, spent 2025 training camp with the Dallas Wings but did not make the regular season roster. She last played in a WNBA game with the Seattle Storm in 2024. Signing with Las Vegas represents a reunion, as Holmes played in four games with the Aces during the '21 campaign.

For her career, Holmes has averaged 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists per outing. Her numbers may not be especially attention-catching, but the 6'3" forward will provide the Aces with crucial depth. Las Vegas can use the help amid their inconsistent start to the new season.

A'ja Wilson is still an MVP candidate and Las Vegas features the potential of a championship contender. Yet, at 4-3, this is a team that has clearly not met expectations yet. The Aces will likely bounce back at some point, but bringing in a veteran such as Joyner Holmes could help the process.

The Aces were recently embarrassed by the Golden State Valkyries on the road, losing by a final score of 95-68. The WNBA's expansion team sent a message with the win. Perhaps the devastating defeat will work as a wake-up call for Las Vegas.

The Aces will attempt to move on from the loss and get back on track on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Sparks in a home contest. The matchup represents the first of a three-game homestand as Las Vegas will host the Dallas Wings on Friday and the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday following Wednesday's clash with the Sparks. It goes without saying, but the Aces would love to build positive momentum ahead of Tuesday's road affair with the undefeated Minnesota Lynx.

Tip-off for Wednesday night's Sparks and Aces game is scheduled for 10 PM EST in Las Vegas. It remains to be seen when Joyner Holmes will make her 2025 debut with Las Vegas, but it should be sooner rather than later.
